GoS drop rates exposed and a new adventure in tokens
Main Post:
THIS POST IS IN 2 LARGE SECTIONS, SECTION 1 IS GOS DROPS AND POTENTIAL FIXES, SECTION 2 IS TOKENS AND A NEW SURVEY/DATA COLLECTION
First of all, thank you to everybody who took the time out of their day to help me collect data on drop rates for GoS. I can definitively say that they suck. Armor will drop at half the rate of weapons, and of those weapons over 2/3 of them will be energy weapons. I can see why they did it, as it is the fastest way for players to get their collections page filled as fast as possible, as a 50/50 weapons vs armor split would be weird with the limited loot pool per encounter, but there are ways around that.
Firstly, the obvious one, is to change the way the loot pools work from a pool of 3 items per encounter to a larger pool. Maybe have all armor pieces available but not all weapons. Problem solved, make it a 50/50 armor/weapon split.
Alternatively, if you don't care about armor vs weapons and all you want is healthier energy vs kinetic, change the shotgun to a kinetic breach grenade launcher and the sniper to a linear fusion. We got a total of 3 shotguns in shadowkeep, but we haven't gotten a new breach grenade launcher since the IB in jokers wild, which arguably wasn't new anyway. And the only kinetic ones we have are mountaintop and militias birthright, which isn't much for variety compared to how many weapons of other archetypes we have. So give it a neat potential perk combo that focuses on something the others don't, like bouncing grenades or something. Just anything but another energy shotgun, we have enough. For the linear fusion, my logic is this: we have more exotic machine guns, an archetype of weapons that started late in forsaken, than we do year 2 legendary linear fusions. That's wack. I hear the argument from clan mates sometimes that "linear fusion rifles are bad" but with a sample size of literally 1 gun brought over from year 1, I don't think that assumption is fair or even accurate. Changing the sniper specifically is because we got 3 snipers in SK, two of which are energy rapid fire frames with rolls suited for crucible. Change it to a linear fusion and give it something interesting like firing line, or rapid hit, or both. Make a new perk for linear fusions, anything to breathe life into this archetype of laser beams.
tl;dr GoS is unfair for a reason, but the reason can be fixed with lasers and grenades
Now onto the tokens, the target today is Zavala, because he has a lot of weapons. Does he give even weapons and armor, or does it just draw from a big hat? A hat makes sense for a smaller loot pool like GoS, but not for a vendor like Vuvuzela. So lets get to turning in tokens, one by one. Zavala. From what I can gather, he commands the guardian army from a tower on the edge of the last city. He's stingy, but with the right RNG, we can get that engram, and break his grip on loot drops.
Just turn in tokens and fill out poll for each engram: http://www.strawpoll.me/18943819
tl;dr look up literally one line you buffoon
Once I start getting numbers I will update this
Edit: remembered militias birthright and other small fixes
Edit2: do the poll for every engram btw, you can do it multiple times
Edit3: Well this was disappointing. From the seventeen current data points, it looks like zavala favors guns, but thats not accurate at all. I'll try again on the weekend with shaxx I guess.

You can’t trust player run polls to be definitive numbers. It’s too easy to tamper with, or fill out false information.
